Overnight dog sitting with me starts at $100 for a 12-hour stay in your home in Chelmsford. A long weekend of three nights is about $300, and a full week of seven nights is about $700, before extras like additional pets or holiday dates.
That number can look high next to some app listings, so this post explains what an overnight actually includes, what changes the price, and the questions that make two quotes comparable.
What a 12-hour overnight includes
An overnight is the closest thing to you being home. Nothing about your dog’s evening, night or morning changes except who is there:
- Someone in your home overnight, so your dog is not alone through the night.
- Evening and morning care: feeding, walks and potty breaks on your schedule.
- Medication given at the times you set.
- A lived-in house: mail and package retrieval, plant watering and trash removal are included.
Exact arrival and departure times are agreed at the meet & greet. Many clients add a midday walk or a drop-in visit so their dog isn’t alone for long during the day. Full details are on the overnight pet sitting page.
What a trip costs
| Trip | Care plan | Estimate |
|---|---|---|
| One night | 1 overnight | $100 |
| Long weekend | 3 overnights | About $300 |
| One week | 7 overnights | About $700 |
| One week with midday walks | 7 overnights + 5 walks at $20 | About $800 |
These are starting-price estimates for one dog. Trips of a week or more sometimes qualify for an adjusted rate, so ask when you request a quote. You can also use the pet sitting rates calculator.
What changes the price
- More pets. A second dog or a cat in the same home usually adds a modest per-pet fee.
- Medical care. Oral and topical medication is included; injections, wound care or mobility help may adjust the rate.
- Holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and the Fourth of July carry a small premium. Overnights also fill up early around school vacations, so it helps to book holiday care early.
- Trip length. Longer stays sometimes qualify for an adjusted nightly rate.
How app prices compare
Wag! publishes its own overnight data. Its Boston dog sitting page lists a typical overnight in-home dog sitting price of $52 a night, with most stays between $41 and $64 (Wag! caregiver data as of August 5, 2026), plus a flat $14.99 booking fee per booking. Nationally, Wag! puts overnight dog sitting at about $51 a night. Rover says owners pay an 11% booking fee at checkout.
Those figures are useful as a reference, but “overnight” doesn’t mean the same thing everywhere. Before comparing prices, ask every sitter:
- How many hours will you actually be in my home? My overnights are 12 hours.
- Are evening and morning walks and feeding included?
- Will you be caring for other clients’ pets during my booking? I care for one client’s pets at a time.
- Will the same person stay every night?
- Are you insured and trained in pet first aid? I’m insured through PCI and Pet First Aid and CPR certified.
- Are there booking or service fees on top of the nightly rate?
Overnight sitting or boarding?
If your dog is social and adaptable, in-home dog boarding at my Chelmsford home also starts at $100 and is quoted on your dates. Overnight sitting usually suits anxious dogs, seniors, dogs on medication and homes with several pets. There’s a full comparison in overnight pet sitting vs. in-home dog boarding.
